Barrel Build Diary PART 2
over 4 years ago – Mon, Oct 07, 2019 at 06:17:25 AM

Dear Barrel Builders!

Here is Part 2 of the Barrel build!

Putting the Parts Together

So we've got all the parts printed now and we need to get them all together. We'll be using 5 minute epoxy like the following:

5 Minute Epoxy Glue.

This glue is strong and once you mix it you only have a short period in which to get it on your barrel parts before it goes of so best to mix small manageable amounts. Before adding the glue it is always worth testing the parts together in case they need any rubbing with sandpaper to make sure the fit is good.

Once the glue is set you can now move onto the next step.

All The Parts Fitted & Glued Together

Finishing

Now we are ready to start the final finishing!

There may be some gaps and places that need some filling. I like to use standard wood filler. This can be bought fromany DIY store. We used Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler and you can dip a brush into it and work it over the surface of the barrel. I also just used my finger to work it into the seems and printed lines to smooth out the barrel. Dip your finger into some water to smooth the filler further. A scraper is also useful to move the filler around the surface. I was very happy with the look of the barrel after the filler was added and the joins were hardly visible!

Filler & Sanded Barrel

Once the filler is dry you will need to get to work on sanding the barrel - this is messy so best to do outside if possible!

Painting

Once you have sanded you'll need to spray primer all over the barrel. We used Citadel Chaos Black acrylic primer spray and this has a good covering and dries nice and flat. We then added a second spray primer an acrylic grey to highlight from above.

After the primer has been added.

Leaving this to dry for a few hours we can now work on the final coat of paint!

We used a number of acrylic paints to build up the colours - you may want to go for a similar colour scheme but I'm looking forward to seeing how barrel builders tackle this and seeing your own colour schemes!

Final Shots!

Here are a few shots of the final barrel!

The barrel contains all the game components well and is really striking on the games table!

I'm super happy with this and can't wait to take this along to our next games evening when we play Dwarven Beerfest!

That concludes our barrel build diary!

Exciting news!

Dear Backers!

We're very near to funding - which is awesome and we've got a big update for all of you!

When we fund we'll unlock 2 new drinking characters!

Yes we'll add these characters to the Under the Table expansion and it will give you more choice on which drinkers you may want to play with and allow up to 6 players to take part in the game when you add our new expansion! Yes you'll be able to expand the core game now too - more on this below! We'll be working on the artwork for these characters which may not be Dwarves... Watch this space for more info on this soon!

5-6 Player Expansion

A number of backers have reached out to us enquiring about the possibility of adding extra players to the game.

We've listened and now you can extend your game by adding the 5-6 player expansion! This expansion includes 32 additional drinks cards and 20 action cards and expands the core game by 52 cards! To grab this expansion just add £5.00 to your pledge amount. You can do this by hitting the MANAGE YOUR PLEDGE button.

The 5-6 Player Expansion Pack

For more information on Add-Ons check out that section on the main kickstarter page. If you are a little unsure how Add-Ons work here is a quick explanation.

Add-Ons

Add-Ons for Dwarven Beerfest include additional copies of the core game/expansions and other fun games from Triple Ace Games. To add-on these games you simply check the  combined cost of the Add-Ons and hit the 'MANAGE YOUR PLEDGE' button and add the additional cost of the add-ons to your pledge  amount. After the kickstarter ends we will send you a survey which will tell us what exact items you pledged for.

We'll have Part 2 of the Barrel build in the next update!

Thanks for your backing and please keep spreading the news about Dwarven Beerfest!

Dear Backers

Thanks so much for backing Dwarven Beerfest. We really appreciate your support early in the project!

We're well over 50% funded and we hope to hit the funding goal soon and start knocking down a few of those stretch goals - we'd love to make Dwarven Beerfest the best game it can be, and with your help we are sure to make it so!

Please, please share the project with all your friends and encourage any like-minded gamers that they should come and back us - the more we spread the news, the quicker we will get to those stretch goals!

Barrel Build Diary PART 1
over 4 years ago – Sun, Oct 06, 2019 at 05:08:58 AM

Dear Backers!

We're over 80% funded as of this morning! We are definitely getting there!

Here is part 1 of the Barrel build that we are undertaking in the TAG office. Sorry for those who are not into the 3d printing world yet - this will get technical!

Materials & Equipment

We're using a PLA material and our printer is a budget FDM printer that is a Makerbot clone. The barrel is a BIG print and to enable us to print it we have sliced the model into several parts:

x2 Barrel Lid parts

x2 Barrel base parts

X2  Game Insert Parts

Part one of the two barrel top sections.

When you receive the files it will be in these parts and you can print it in sections as we have done or if you are lucky enough to have a large format printer you'll be able to combine the parts on the print bed!

Getting Technical

We printed this at 0.3 layer height and our PLA filiment is of the 1.75mm variety. We set our printer to 225 degrees but your settings may be different depending on the printer you are using. We decided to keep the density down so its at about 10% density. This also keeps the cost down by using less PLA material.

With the top section of the barrel we created some manual supports to bridge the gap. You can do the same or use your 3d slicers own support settings.

Top section showing manual supports added.

It's taken around 100 hrs of printing to complete all the parts. The good thing about 3d printing is you can shut the door and let the printer do all the hard work! You don't have to sit there watching it!

Even though this is about the longest print time I've done so far I'm happy to wait and getting all the part from the printer is worth it. It great to see the part emerge on the print bed.

No onto the bottom section of the barrel!

We've now got all the parts. In the next diary entry we will begin assembling everything.

All the parts!

Whats coming up in the build? We'll be cleaning the parts up and gluing them together and then filling any holes sanding and finally painting!

See you in the next update!
